Arisaema thunbergii ssp. urashima is a herbaceous perennial plant, native to the woodlands of Japan. A single flower is produced on a dusty purplish stem. The spadix is dark purple and the end turns upward with a long whip like tail sometimes reaching over 15” in length. Best grown in a partial shade, damp and well drained environment, but requires fairly dry conditions over winter. It is an excellent companion for woodland orchids such as Calanthe discolor or sieboldii, or yellow Lady’s Slipper. USDA zone 5 – 8.
