Yes, you CAN do indoor culture with your steno!
I’ve had one of these for many years and flowerings now, through thick and thin, as a 100% indoor orchid. Aka “indoor culture†in orchid grower jargon. No terrarium or other specialist growing accommodations required. What I hit on almost by accident is the following combination:- a teracotta pot to allow some moisture respiration- Almost entirely sphagnum moss media, with a bit of perlite added. As with any orchid, and especially indoor culture, you’ll need to pay attention to placement: how much light and in what season. I find that my steno does best with a good bit of light, but not in a place where it gets blasted by extensive summer sun – perhaps move it seasonally to avoid problems.
Blooming in my terrarium now
Definitely loves water. When I picked this plant up, the pseudobulbs were thin and there was a flower spike. But, after mounting with sphagnum moss to a cork flat, the flower shriveled. I placed the mount into my terrarium where it receives bi-hourly 10-second misting and the bulbs fattened up very nicely and I have a huge bloom growing.
